Mom, is this camping?

We had to go to Western Washington recently to pick up some things from my dad's house. McKenzie had been talking about the beach and we realized that none of our children had seen the Pacific Ocean. (Actually, McKenzie caught a glimpse on our way to El Paso in 2004, but that doesn't count.) So, we decided to go camping on the coast. Our kids were really excited. All week long, Thomas had been telling people "We're going camping!" McKenzie asked daily if this was the day we were going camping, and even Mason got in on the act with his little vocabulary: "Camping! Yaaaay!" Friday finally arrived and we set off on our trip. After stopping at my dad's house to survey the damage, and stopping at Michael's dad's house to meet up with him and his wife, Dawn, we headed for the coast. We arrived after dark. The kids were tired when we got there. It was interesting trying to keep them quiet and out of the way while Michael and his dad set up the campsite. We finally got the kids in bed, and McKenzie and Mason had already fallen asleep when Thomas popped his head up and said "Mom, is this camping?" I just thought it was neat how they get so excited for things even when they aren't really even sure what they are. (Funny thing is, he has been camping before.)

Here's Megan with her crazy camp hair.Posted by Picasa

she's not even six months old and megan has been camping twice already! She will be a seasoned outdoorsy person by the time she is five.
